My Take on Star Trek

Don't worry, no spoilers!

I finally went to see the new Star Trek movie this past weekend, and I have to say I thought it was great. I didn't quite know what to expect, being a fan of Star Trek, myself. It's quite a daunting task to make a movie with a whole new cast playing characters that are nothing short of legendary for the millions of Star Trek fans around the world.

I was impressed at the quality of casting, and the care the actors took to incorporate the aspects of their characters that have endeared them to Star Trek fans, yet at the same time make them their own.

There was a good balance of suspense and humor, and they managed to insert many of the little catch phrases that Star Trek fans love.

The story was great and the cinematography and special effects were nothing short of astounding.

Everyone I've talked to who has seen it has spoken very highly of it, whether they were fans of Star Trek or not.

I highly recommend catching Star Trek while it is still in theaters. You won't be disappointed.

Without intentionally

Without intentionally spoiling anything, I like how previous Star Trek characters were cast into roles for this movie, to entertain fans of the old series without alienating new people alike. I'd never seen a full episode of Star Trek before, and came out of the movie curious to watch some of the old episodes.

JJ Abrams was wise to structure the movie the way he did, setting up character's pasts before integrating them into the storyline so as to connect with the audience. We knew what kind of character Spock or Kirk were before the big conflict starts to become evident.

Oh, and you can't go wrong with green aliens. Moar, please.
